Duties and Responsibilities

The Technical Director is responsible for designing and creating technical solutions and developing safe and cost-effective construction methods based on design concepts and visual information.  The Technical Director must possess the ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail and must possess a creative approach to scenic construction.  This position requires hands-on experience related to design, engineering, layout, and wood/metal fabrication or general construction.  The Technical Director must be willing to travel as required by the project. This position reports to the Director of Scenic Production.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Create technical drawings for shop build based on designer drawings, layouts, and other visual aids
  • Draft detailed assembly/installation drawings for use by the production during load in
  • Research and order materials and hardware required to execute the construction of designed units
  • Actively communicate with the construction team and maintain shop production schedules
  • Work closely with department heads and subcontractors  to meet both budgetary and scheduling goals
  • Communicate with the client and shop supervisory staff during the design and construction phases of the project
  • Monitor safety oversight quality control
Qualifications
  • Minimum BA or BFA. MFA Technical production degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of solid industry experience in technical theater and/or scenic fabrication
  • Proficiency with Vectorworks, EnRoute, Illustrator, and MS Office
  • Experience with automation, hydraulics, motors and electronics
  • High-level problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions when prioritizing the short and long-term objectives for projects
  • Must have outstanding relationship skills and have a team-oriented, collaborative work ethic
  • Ability to work overtime

The Scenic Construction Manager is responsible for the successful operation and the overall fabrication coordination of all scenic departments to meet both budgetary and scheduling goals. The Scenic Construction Manager will direct work on the shop floor and serve as a model, exemplifying expected standards of quality work and shop safety. This position reports to the Director of Scenic Production.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

The Carpenter is responsible for the successful and efficient fabrication of all carpentry and for ensuring quality construction and finish of scenic units.  This is a hands-on position that will report directly to the Carpenter Foreman.

  • Coordinate space and set-up requirements with various departments as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

The CNC Operator / Scenic Carpenter will work under the supervision of the Scenic Construction Manager (SCM) and the Director of Scenic Operations.  This position is primarily responsible for the complete operation and maintenance of the Multi-cam router. The CNC Operator / Scenic Carpenter will assist the SCM with CNC programming and assist the shop with the construction and handling of scenic product. The CNC Operator / Scenic Carpenter must have a high level of professionalism, a strong organizational background, excellent communication / interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.

CNC operation skills required include, budgeting, materials ordering, labor management, managing client relationships, coordination with office and contractors, daily reports, CAD drafting and high level problem solving skills. Scenic carpentry skills include self-motivation and conscientious fabrication to produce high finish quality scenery while meeting the demands of an aggressive production schedule.   Must have command of hand and stationary woodworking tools. Hands on experience related to design, wood/metal fabrication or general construction. Working knowledge of theatrical and exhibit fabrication techniques; Word, Excel, Vector Works.
