Duties and Responsibilities

The Technical Director is responsible for designing and creating technical solutions and developing safe and cost effective construction methods based on design concepts and visual information.  The Technical Director must possess the ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail and must possess a creative approach to scenic construction.  This position requires hands on experience related to design, engineering, layout, and wood/metal fabrication or general construction.  The Technical Director must be willing to travel as required by project. This position reports to the Director of Scenic Production.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Create technical drawings for shop build based on designer drawings, layouts, and other visual aids
  • Draft detailed assembly/installation drawings for use by the production during load in
  • Research and order materials and hardware required to execute the construction of designed units
  • Actively communicate with construction team and maintain shop production schedules
  • Work closely with department heads and subcontractors  to meet both budgetary and scheduling goals
  • Communicate with the client and shop supervisory staff during the design and construction phases of the project
  • Monitor safety oversight quality control
Qualifications
  • Minimum BA or BFA. MFA Technical production degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of solid industry experience in technical theater and/or scenic fabrication
  • Proficiency with Vectorworks, EnRoute, Illustrator, and MS Office
  • Experience with automation, hydraulics, motors and electronics
  • High level problem solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions when prioritizing the short and long term objectives for projects
  • Must have outstanding relationship skills and have a team oriented, collaborative work ethic
  • Ability to work overtime

The Scenic Construction Manager is responsible for the successful operation and the overall fabrication coordination of all scenic departments to meet both budgetary and scheduling goals. The Scenic Construction Manager will direct work on the shop floor and serve as a model, exemplifying expected standards of quality work and shop safety. This position reports to the Director of Scenic Production.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Oversee fabrication, and coordination of all shop projects to ensure accurate, timely, on-budget completion.
  • Hands on approach related to carpentry, metal fabrication, paint, soft goods, print and logistics
  • Coordinate in-bound and out-bound receiving and shipping
  • Manage and maintain safety oversight for all departments

Duties and Responsibilities

The Scenic Painter is responsible for the successful completion of the painting phase of production to meet both budgetary and scheduling goals. This is a hands-on position that will report directly to the Paint Shop Foreman.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Prep, texture, paint scenic elements from renders and verbal instruction
  • Understand scenic painting techniques, layout and paint application skills, and color mixing
  • Interpret designers small-scale ideas and develop them into full-scale reproductions
  • Assist with inventory and maintenance of sprayers and equipment
  • Assure that a clean and safe work environment is maintained
Qualifications
  • Minimum BA or BFA technical production degree or experience
  • Minimum 1 year of solid industry experience in technical theater and/or scenic fabrication
  • Solid understanding in the fine art skills of sketching, rendering, and painting
  • Must have a team oriented, collaborative work ethic
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly

Duties and Responsibilities

The logistics specialist/ driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of production related materials as required.  This is a hands-on position with direct reporting to the Inventory Control Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Drive trucks to and from load ins/load outs and local pickups/deliveries
  • Ability to excel in a loading dock environment
  • Manage service and maintenance of company vehicles and all related equipment
  • Maintain compliance as per DOT requirements
  • Assist with rental and inventory control
  • Provide general prep for loading trucks including labeling, wrapping, and packing
  • Assist in waste and recycle management
  • Assist in various production departments as needed
Qualifications
  • Associates degree from a 2-year college or technical school
  • Experience with bob-tail deliveries in the DFW metroplex
  • Clean driving record, CDL a plus

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work overtime, anytime
  • Heavy lifting required 75 lbs and up
  • The ability to work in extreme temperatures in a fast paced environment
